Endorsement Babies!

No one can ever say that life is boring when midwifery is in the picture! My last two shifts where I caught babies happened to be day shifts where my shift starts at 6am, but I always try to arrive a little early just in case there is any action...

Sure enough, on Feb. 16, I arrived at 5:45, and a lady had walked in and was ready to push. The girls on night shift were glad for my early arrival because otherwise one of them would have had to stay for at least 1 hour after shift to finish up paperwork and mother/baby care, and after being on duty all night, that is the last thing you want to do especially if the woman just walked in and no relationship is formed... Gerlin ended up delivering at 6:15am.

As if that wasn't exciting enough, this morning I work up bright and early at 5:10 to have plenty of time to get scrubs and make coffee, but was so sleepy, I did something I barely ever do - I reset my alarm for 5:30am since my hair was done already and I was SO tired! Ha. I still had plenty of time though I guess, because I arrived at work at 5:50am and once again caught an endorsement baby. Kristine Joy was in a much bigger hurry, she joined us at 6:01am! This mom - Analiza - had a really hard time not pushing when she shouldn't (too allow for full dilation) and listening to us as we tried to help her, but after the baby was out, she was a completely different person, calm and serene, telling her baby stories about how she really needed to breastfeed well so that I would let them go home and so she could meet her "kua" (big brother) who was waiting at home for her!

Both births were great, and because they both happened in the 6am time frame, I was completely done with everything only a few hours later, and had plenty of time to chat and hang out with the families.

Jelly Belly Party

At a loss for something fun to do when you are bored? Don't worry, I have a solution! A jelly belly picnic! It was so much fun, Jenna and I found recipes for all sorts of combinations of jelly beans to mix to make so many yummy things, we made chocolate covered cherries, lemon merangue pie, coffee drinks and believe it or not even blueberry and raspberry muffins! And it is so easy to make all those things! The blueberry muffin is 2 blueberry beans + 1 butter one. (Sounds gross, but believe me it is so good!) Anyway, here are a few fun pics for you:

Belly Cast - from start to finish

Some of you know that I had an art project due that had to do with midwifery and I made a belly cast. I thought I would post a few pictures to show you the process from start to finish just because it is so fun. Enjoy...
